Payal Surekha, an IAS aspirant who was working at Dell Corporation here, was found murdered with her throat slit in her one-bedroom apartment on Friday.
"The murderer, we suspect, was known to the victim and hence all those who knew her are being questioned," Narang said.
"The post mortem of the woman has been completed and we expect the report in a day or two."
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar said, "We are verifying all relevant data. We believe we are on the right track and will crack the case."
The questioning of Surekha's husband, Anand Narayan Mishra, follows doubts raised by the victim's family to the media that he could be behind the murder.
Mishra, a gym instructor, is currently unemployed after giving up his job.
Police had yesterday taken into custody "for interrogation" a gym instructor, a former colleague of Mishra, after Mishra in his statement suspected that the former could be behind the murder.
Mishra said the former colleague had "threatened to eliminate" his family after a fight with him some time ago, police said.
Surekha's laptop has been seized to scrutinise her e-mails, sources said, adding the mobile phone of Mishra, a native of Orissa and who still holds a Cuttack number, has also been confiscated.
Surekha, a native of Assam, had married Mishra about five years ago after falling in love with him.
