Six accused arrested in Bangalore gang-rape case

Bangalore: Six people were arrested in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 21-year-old student of National Law School of India University (NLSIU) from Nepal a week back.

City Police Commissioner Jyotiprakash Mirji told reporters in Bangalore today that all of them were arrested from suburban Ramanagara and Mattaradoddigudda areas. Two others are absconding and would be nabbed soon, he said.

"The six persons were cutting wood illegally for sale and came to the university campus in search of sandalwood on the night of the crime," he said.

Asked about preliminary investigations showing no external injuries on the girl, Mirji said police were awaiting the medical report which would give a correct picture.

The incident took place on Saturday night in the campus after the gang waylaid the car in which she was going with her boyfriend, an IT employee from Kerala.

Mirji said the second year law student in her complaint alleged that an eight member gang attacked them, forcibly took her away into the forest and raped her after sending her boyfriend back to their car.
