Teen killed in Bangalore hit-and-run was family's bread-earner

Bangalore: Bangalore is stunned by footage of a hit-and-run that took place in the wee hours of Sunday, in which a teenager died after a speeding Audi hit the auto-rickshaw in which he was travelling. The accused, a 22-year-old, has been arrested, reports the Press Trust of India.

The police say security cameras at a major intersection on the Mahatma Gandhi road show the SUV ramming into the auto-rickshaw. The four passengers abandoned the Audi and managed to escape from the site of the accident.

One of the two teens in the auto died immediately. His cousin and the auto driver were rushed to hospital by eyewitnesses; they are reportedly not in danger.

The accused was arrested this morning, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) MA Saleem told PTI. He has been charged under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC and is in police custody, he said.

The victim was the sole breadwinner in his three-member family and was working in a pub in the city.
