Bangalore: Theatre can go well with Trance! At least that's what a brigade of more than 50 women want to prove in Bangalore. With the extension of nightlife till 1 am on all 7 days of the week in Bangalore, women are out till late night in the city - not just to party but to perform!
Artists from Bangalore and Chennai are performing one minute theatre monologues at various pubs in Bangalore. Most of them are first timers who see it as a chance to learn and earn.
Kavya Srinivasan, an IIT Madras student, transforms into different characters every night. The 21-year-old is in Bangalore to perform over a period of 15 days to an audience she says which is mature - it wants more than just a drink. "I am writing for the first time and it was so hard to write a one minute. Although it sounds fairly simple" says Kavya Srinivasan.
Akansha, another student from a reputed university in Bangalore is a professional already. The 23-year-old psychology student says, "I put this above everything else. And I really think that if I balance things well I will be good and also make money out of it."
The pub city of India is now beginning to redefine 'partying'. Besides theatre, crowds are now involved with educational and fun games - Pictionary, quiz, dumb charades, all while partying. Restaurants and pub owners say partying is becoming mature by retaining the fun aspect.
"We have had people between 6 and 60 coming for karaoke and singing. We have senior citizens, children, and of course the mad crowd which wants to party hard till early into the morning. Some like a peaceful evening, at a jazz concert may be. So even though dancing is banned officially in Bangalore, the fun still remains. And we do need to reinvent, offer new things to those willing to involve crowds," said Meghna R, a working member at Opus Entertainment.
