Bangalore:
The Mahadevapura police have arrested a 25-year-old techie for beating up and threatening an autorickshaw driver with a gun, which was later found to be a toy. Though, Prabhu, the accused, later told the police that he always carried the gun with him for his 'safety'.
According to the police, Prabhu works for an IT firm at Whitefield, and stays with his brother Prakash, who is also a techie. The duo was returning home from a party early morning on Monday, and had stopped an autorikshaw at Doddanekkundi gate near Whitefield to take them home.
The duo was in an inebriated state and since it was wee hours, the autorikshaw driver, Gopinath, asked them double the meter fare. The brothers initially agreed, but when the autorikshaw started nearing their destination, they allegedly started arguing with Gopinath.
After a heated argument, they came to blows, and Prabhu pulled out his gun, pointed it at Gopinath, and threatened to shoot him. Gopinath raised an alarm, and as luck would have it, a few passing-by autorikshaw drivers rushed to his help. Sensing danger, Prabhu's brother Prakash fled from the scene. However, Prabhu was caught and was handed over to the cops.
Meanwhile Prakash, who managed to reach home, called up the control room, complaining that a group has attacked him and ransacked his house. In his complaint, Prakash said that the group chased him, barged into his house and beat him up before ransacking the premises.
Mahadevapura PI Mohammed Rafuiq M said that they have booked and remanded Prabhu to judicial custody. "We let off Prakash as we did not find his involvement in the incident," he said.
