Bangalore: A 35-year-old woman was today moved to hospital by police from her house in Malleswaram area in Bangalore. She had reportedly not stepped out of her home for several years.
The woman, a Commerce graduate, was found in an extremely poor physical condition when the police visited her house after receiving a tip-off.
Neighbours say they had not seen her for years which made them suspicious. Finally, they went inside her house on Monday, and what they saw was shocking. The woman was lying half-naked on a cloth on the floor.
"She can't move at all. Half of her body is paralysed. She can't lift her right half of the body. When the doctors tried to lift her arm, she was screaming with pain," said Adarsh, a neighbour.
Her family - parents and a brother - claims that she suffers from arthritis and is unable to walk. They say she showed no signs of improvement despite their best efforts and has been in this state for the last 4-5 years.
"Sometimes I get very hungry... There is nothing to hide... I have been like this since I came from hospital," the woman later told local channels.
Police say she hasn't lodged a complaint against her family. The neighbours, too, have not filed a formal complaint against her parents.
"We contacted a doctor. I spoke to her... doctors also spoke to her independently. She has not given a complaint against anybody that she was illegally detained. However, we are verifying the facts," said SN Siddaramappa, DCP North, Bangalore.
She was later shifted to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences. Cops say they will wait for a few days for the woman to share more details on what had happened in the last few years.
