Bangalore: A 35-year-old yoga teacher allegedly murdered his former Israeli girlfriend and hid her body in a refrigerator for nearly three weeks at his residence on the outskirts of the city before surrendering to police.
Lokesh Chandra Das has confessed to murdering 30-year-old Tamar Farha Abraham on April 15 and stashing away her body in a large refrigerator at his 11th floor apartment in Gubbalala, police said. Das is married to software engineer Jyothi, they added.
Giving himself up before Police Commissioner J Prakash Mirji last evening, Das in his statement said he fatally hit Tamar with a hard plastic pipe on her head following a quarrel, Ramanagara District Superintendent of Police S P Bisnalli said.
The woman's body has been recovered from the apartment.
Das said he and Tamar had a relationship since they met at a yoga camp in Rishikesh in 2007. However, he decided to end it and informed Tamar on March 31 last.
Tamar came to Das's residence on April 15 upset over his indifference towards her leading to a quarrel between them.
She assaulted Das' wife, who had recently delivered a baby, when she intervened, police said.
An enraged Das locked Jyothi along with the new-born into a room and fatally hit Tamar on the head with a pipe.
After hiding Tamar's body in another room, he sent his wife and child to his in-laws house. He also strangulated Tamar to make sure she was dead.
The Yoga teacher told police he purchased a large refrigerator and stuffed her body inside it so that it would not decompose and emanate foul smell after giving up the idea of cutting it into pieces and disposing off.
Overcome by guilt, Das confessed to his wife about killing Tamar, who convinced him to go to police.
