Angry villagers kill wild bear in Bhopal forest zone

Bhopal: Two days after a person was killed and three others were injured in a bear attack, angry villagers of Golgaon killed the wild animal in Samardha range of Bhopal forest zone to end its menace, police said today.

The bear was killed last night after the forest guard failed to rescue it from the villagers, forest sources said.

On Wednesday, the bear attacked and killed one Rai Singh Tomar (22) and injured three others including his uncle while they were trying to drive away the animal to save his cow.

The villagers in a huge group of about 200 people gathered with sharp-edged weapons and killed the animal near a pond.

Forest department persons, who were already busy in a rescue operation, were informed by the forest guard. But by the time they reached the spot it was killed, Chief Conservator of Forests, S S Rajput said.

The carcass of the eight year-old female bear was recovered from the spot and sent for post-mortem.

Mr Rajput said that a case would be filed against all those involved in the killing.
