An elderly man was beaten to death allegedly by his son over a land dispute in Odisha's Jajpur district, police said today.
Both the son and father attacked each other with wooden sticks following heated arguments over some land issue at Palatapur village yesterday, said Prasant Kumar Mallha, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jajpur.
Hearing commotion, locals rushed to the spot, rescued both father and son and admitted them to the Community Health Centre at Mangalpur, he said.
While the man, identified as Radheshayam Behera, 80, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital his son, Pramod Behera, was undergoing treatment, he said.
Police have sent the body to the district head quarters hospital for post mortem.
"We have arrested the accused under section 302 of IPC and seized the weapon used in the crime," the SDPO said, adding further investigation is on.
Radheshyam Behera had a long standing dispute with Pramod Behera over a piece of land located in the same village, police said.
