Bhubaneswar:
At least five children, not older than six years were killed after the wall of their school collapsed on Monday in Odisha's Nayagarh district, an official said.
The accident occurred at the Anganbadi centre in Suansia village under Ranapur police station area when eleven children and three adults were inside.
While three children died on the spot, two others died in the local hospital, District Collector SK Choudhury told IANS.
"It was an old building," he said.
Ten people including seven children have sustained injuries. Two children with critical injuries were undergoing treatment in the hospitals, while the remaining were discharged after first aid, he added.
The government has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for the family of those killed. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar said the government will bear the cost of the treatment of those injured.
Nayagarh is about 90 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
