Bhubaneswar: The 65th foundation day of Odisha's capital Bhubaneswar was celebrated today amidst gaiety and enthusiasm with a call to develop it as a world class city.

An impressive parade was organised in front of the state assembly building in which students from various schools and colleges participated.

Assembly Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat, who was the chief guest at the function, sought concrete steps to restore the lost scenic beauty and greenery of the city and said massive plantation has to be undertaken for this.

Speaking at the function, Revenue minister S N Patro, Agriculture Minister D P Mishra and Information and Energy Minister Arun Sahu said the government was taking steps for planned development of the city which has emerged as a major educational hub and business centre.

The Foundation Day function was a joint endeavour of Bhubaneswar Foundation Committee and District Administration.

Popularly known as Temple City, it is regarded as a centre of economic and religious importance in Eastern India and is also one of modern India's first planned cities.

The target for the city administration is to make Bhubaneswar a world-class city by 2030, speakers said.

Thirteen people were honoured with Rajadhani Gaurav for their achievement in various fields on the occasion.
