Indonesia keen to revive ancient ties with Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Indonesia on Thursday said that it was keen to revive the ancient ties with Odisha by strengthening bilateral trade and cultural exchanges besides investing in a host of areas including mining and rubber plantation.

Indonesia's Ambassador in India, Andi M Ghalib, who met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar, said that investors from his country were keen to invest in mining, agriculture, infrastructure and rubber plantation sector in the state.

"We also invite investors from Odisha to become partners in Indonesia's education, industries and other sectors," Mr Ghalib said.

He said a business delegation from Indonesia would visit the state in October next to hold discussions in this connection.

Mr Ghalib recalled his country's special bond with Odisha and narrated how Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's late father Biju Patnaik contributed to the freedom struggle of Indonesia.

He also praised the late Biju Patnaik's contribution in instituting Kalinga Unesco Prize for popularisation of science.

Earlier, Mr Ghalib had met Odisha Governor MC Bhandare and members of the Utkal Chambers of Commerce.
