Odisha Government Issues Showcause Notice To Sum Hospital

Odisha Government Issues Showcause Notice To Sum Hospital
The notice was issued by the District Collector of Khurda.
Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has issued a show cause notice to Sum Hospital asking it to explain as to why its clinical licence will not be cancelled in the wake of the fire mishap where 21 people died.

The notice was issued by the District Collector of Khurda, who had granted conditional certificate of registration to maintain a clinical establishment on July 7.

However, the district administration had granted renewal of the certificate to Sum Hospital despite the state government's advisory to District Collectors not to register any hospital or renew their licence if they do not produce fire safety clearance certificate.

The renewal certificate, according to officials, was valid from April 6, 2016, to April 5, 2018.

Meanwhile, the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), Central Division, in a letter to the all ten District Collectors within its jurisdiction, has asked to conduct fire safety audit of all medical facilities.

RDC, central division, A B Otta has been probing into the fire mishap at Sum Hospital.

"I have been told to complete the inquiry within two months. I hope to complete it earlier," Otta told reporters.
