Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday decided to hike the daily remuneration of home guards from Rs150 to Rs 200. The new remuneration would be effective retrospectively from June 1, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who is also in-charge of home department, said in a direction.
The home guards association had been demanding a hike in their remuneration for a long time.
"At least 17,675 home guards will benefit from the decision," a senior official said adding the state government would bear an additional expenditure of Rs 32 crore per annum for payment of the extra Rs 50 per day per home guard.
The home guards in states like Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattishgarh are already getting Rs 200 as daily remuneration, they said.
The home guards association on the other hand alleged that though they assist the state police, they do enjoy any social security.
