Three days ahead of the third phase polls in Bihar, a video has been released by the BJP which purportedly shows a lawmaker of the Janata Dal (United) accepting an alleged bribe of Rs. 2 lakh. The BJP claimed the lawmaker had fallen for its sting operation.
The video claims Satyadev Kushwaha took the money and 'demanded more' promising to help a person posing as a businessman when the JD(U) government returns to power in Bihar.
Mr Kushwaha, a legislator from Kurda in Arwal district, is shown accepting the cash, counting it, and then later saying "
aur chahiye" (want more). The purported businessman asks if another Rs 5- 6 lakh will do, to which Mr Kushwaha says "
haan chalega" (will work).
The video was tweeted by BJP General Secretary Bhupender Yadav, who said it exposes the "corruption" in JD(U) and asked people to elect the Modi government in Bihar.
This was the second video in which a JD(U) leader has been seen taking money during the elections.
In a video released a day before the first phase polling in Bihar, senior JD(U) leader and former minister, Awadhesh Prasad Kushwaha, was shown allegedly accepting bribe purportedly from a businessman to contest election. He had to resign and the ticket allotted to him for contesting the elections was also withdrawn.
On Saturday, even Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was targeted by the BJP.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh released a video clipping that showed the chief minister meeting a
tantric, who raised slogans on behalf of Mr Kumar's party, the JD(U), and ally Rashtriya Janata Dal led by Lalu Prasad.
The video went viral on social media and provided grist for the campaign mill today. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has targeted Mr Kumar repeatedly over it, the Chief Minister is yet to comment on the clip.
Mr Kushwaha has not offered any explanation on the video either. But party general secretary KC Tyagi, who is considered close to Mr Kumar, said action as stern as against Awadhesh Prasad Kushwaha will be taken in this case too.
