NAWADA: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying by the number of rallies he was holding in Bihar, it seems there is a dearth of other leaders in the Bharatiya Janata Party.
"Are there no other leaders in the BJP? Next they will contest even Panchayat elections in Modi's name," Mr Kumar said, addressing a rally in Nawada, a few hours before campaigning ended for the first phase of the assembly elections.
He said the manner in which union ministers were making visits to the state "It seems as if Patna has become the capital of India".
Mr Kumar said there was greater faith in his 'Grand Alliance' as there is a synergy between the three parties. "We have decided amongst ourselves how many seats each party will contest. Even the names were announced together, this shows our unity," he said.
"On the other side, the BJP's coalition has no unity. The alliance members often pass jibes at each other. One member even raised questions on their seat distribution. Even today they have no candidate for the chief minister's post. They keep saying we are contesting the elections under Modi ji," he said.
Mr Kumar also questioned the Prime Minister on various promises made by his government including on bringing back black money, enhanced minimum support price of crops to farmers and special status to Bihar among others.
He said "In the Lok Sabha elections people voted for the BJP to see what would happen. We thought if we get 15-20 lakh rupees, we'll do well, but then they said it was a jumla (gimmick)."
Accusing PM Modi of deception, Mr Kumar said the special package was "nothing but a mere repackaging of old schemes."
Campaigning for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections will end today and 49 constituencies will go to poll in this phase on Monday.
