Shatrughan Sinha, the BJP's rebellious actor-turned-lawmaker, has followed up a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a series of tweets overnight attacking the party leadership over the debacle in the Bihar elections.
Like four veteran leaders from the party, the parliamentarian from Bihar has demanded that accountability be fixed for the BJP's humiliating rout in the state earlier this month. "Those responsible for the debacle must answer what, why, where & how it all happened. They must satisfy the real stalwarts/veterans of BJP."
He also demanded an apology to the "party godfathers," another reference to LK Advani and three other senior BJP leaders who made a scathing attack on PM Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah last week over their Bihar strategy and campaign and style of functioning.
A red-faced BJP has made it clear that it will not contemplate action against the veterans for their revolt and that other senior party leaders will talk to them. But that has also meant that it has been unable so far to act against partymen like Shatrughan Sinha and RK Singh, Bihar leaders who have offered lacerating critiques of the BJP's Bihar campaign, which was crafted and led by PM Modi and Mr Shah.
Over the weekend, Mr Sinha had in a jibe said, "All the credit goes to Modiji for the number of seats won by the BJP in Bihar and there should not be any doubt about it." The BJP could manage to win only 53 of Bihar's 243 seats.
Mr Sinha, who has an invitation to attend the oath ceremony of the BJP's arch rival Nitish Kumar as chief minister on Friday, also tweeted last night,"R K Singh, former Home Secy.& a proud Bihari Sher (a tough nut to crack) is right. No one has the guts (or DNA) to give us a "fatkaar (scolding)."
Shatrughan Sinha has been in the cross hairs of the BJP leadership from before the Bihar elections, when he repeatedly praised Mr Kumar. After the election he met both Nitish Kumar and his partner Lalu Yadav to congratulate them.
