Patna:
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday said that the BJP and its allies are heading for a clear majority in the on-going Bihar elections and slammed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his "primitive development model".
"The JD(U) which is ruling Bihar built a few roads here and a few schools there but when they tried to go beyond that, they failed. The biggest difference between them and the BJP is that we will create opportunity," Mr Jaitley said.
"The government here has a primitive development model. They just failed to create economic opportunities here. If anybody is answerable for the poor condition of Bihar it is them," he said.
The Union Minister said the BJP and its allies had an advantage after the two phases of voting. "I have no qualms in saying that we have a clear lead in the elections so far. It is advantage BJP. In some cases it will be a one-sided sweep," he said.
Responding to a question about Prime Minister Narendra Modi rescheduling his rallies, Mr Jaitley said, "When the Prime Minster rescheduled his programme because of gap in polls, you said it's panic. When he devotes time you say it is panic."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address 17 more rallies over the next six days in Bihar beginning tomorrow. The schedule for these rallies, ahead of the remaining three phases of polling, was detailed in advertisements placed by the party in newspapers today.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is seeking a third term and is leading an anti-BJP coalition, has taunted the rival party for seeking votes in the name of the Prime Minister.
