Over Rs 6 Crore Cash, Liquor Seized Prior to Third Phase Bihar Polls

Patna: Unaccounted cash worth Rs 6.85 crore besides 2.45 lakh litres of illicit country-made and foreign liquor worth Rs 4.37 crore were seized from different places in Bihar ahead of the third phase Assembly poll.

As part of its drive to curb misuse of money power in Bihar, the Flying Squad, Static Surveillance Team and others today seized Rs 19.22 lakh cash and 4917 litres of illicit country-made and foreign liquor from different districts of the state, Additional Chief Electoral Officer R Lakshmanan told reporters.

The authorities seized Rs 18.52 lakh from Bhojpur while Rs 70,000 was seized from Madhubani district, he said, adding that both police and Income Tax officials were investigating the matter.

Mr Lakshmanan appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise as the Commission has made an elaborate security arrangement for tomorrow's polling.

He made it clear that there will be no restrictions on the movement of vehicles on the polling day and people can go to the polling stations by their vehicles till 100 metres prior to the polling stations.

The Commission has also issued control number of 0612-2217788 and Fax number of 0612-2215611 on which people can lodge their complaints including irregularities in the elections, the Additional CEO said.

In all 231 arms and weapons and 100 explosives have been seized, while 14724 licensed arms deposited with the authorities and 3686 arms license cancelled, he said.
