Pappu Yadav Apologises for 'Undignified' Claims Made During Bihar Elections

A lawmaker from Bihar, Pappu Yadav said he would try to enact role of a true opposition to Nitish-Lalu government in the state.

Patna: Janadhikar Party (JAP) chief and lawmaker, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav today tendered an apology for making "undignified" claims of leaving politics in case the two sons of Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lalu Prasad won the Bihar assembly elections.

"This is true that I had talked about defeat of two sons of Lalu Prasad in Bihar elections and also said of quitting politics if they did not lose... definitely this claim was 'amaryadit' (undignified)," he said in his facebook account.

"I should not have uttered such things for sons of any politician. I am hurt for making undignified claim and express sorry before you all," he said.

Pappu Yadav had made the prediction about the defeat of Lalu Prasad's sons, Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejaswi Yadav from Mahua and Raghopur seats respectively.

His party JAP had contested 101 seats in the recently concluded Bihar poll but drew a blank.

On being asked whether he would like to go back to Lalu Prasad's party, the leader answered in negative. "Going back to old option is not possible for me," he said.

Talking about his future course of action, Pappu Yadav said he would try to enact role of a true opposition to Nitish-Lalu government in Bihar.

"After one month if Nitish Kumar fails to fulfil his poll promises, including his seven determinations including Rs four lakh education loan to youth, free wifi in colleges/universities and monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 for eight months to facilitate youth employment, I will go to the public and launch an agitation," he said.

Pappu Yadav claimed that BJP, whose state president does not even have the moral courage to accept defeat and tender a resignation, cannot play the role of a responsible opposition in future.

His party was rated as an influence particularly in the Kosi belt, but the JAP leader accepted candidly that he "failed to read the social-political base of Nitish Kumar...the base was much more deeper than we could understand."

From Lalu Prasad's RJD, 42 Yadav candidates won out of a total of 49. Even 11 Yadav candidates from Janata Dal (United) and four from Congress emerged victorious in the Bihar polls.
