Katihar, Bihar:
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in a scathing attack blamed the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the "backwardness" of Bihar.
"If Bihar lags behind other states in terms of road, education, health and agriculture infrastructure, the accountability rests with Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar who together ruled the state over the past quarter century," he said at an election meeting in Barari assembly constituency.
Mr Singh accused Nitish Kumar for seeking votes in the name of development and said that the chief minister had failed to do anything worthwhile for the betterment of Bihar during his decade-long rule.
He also criticized Mr Kumar for pursuing "casteist and communal politics" to divert developmental aspirations of the people on which the BJP-led coalition has based its campaign.
"We have a solid track record having carried out development in states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh," Mr Singh said, urging people to give the NDA an opportunity to "turn around the fortunes of the state".
The Union Minister praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for enhancing India's prestige abroad and asked the people of Bihar to repose their faith in him.
