Patna:
With elections in Bihar just a month away, Rs 12.5 lakh in cash was seized from the car of a BJP lawmaker in Patna today.
Usha Vidyarthi, BJP legislator from the Paliganj constituency in Patna, was not in her car when the cash was recovered, police said.
The car is registered in the name of her husband, and both the owner and the driver of the car are being interrogated, police added.
Unless there is an explanation on the source of the cash, the money is likely to be seized, officials said.
A team from the Income Tax Department is expected to question the people involved as well.
The BJP, which is partnering with the Lok Janshakti Party and the Hindustani Awam Morcha, is up against the Congress-Janata Dal (United)-Rashtriya Janata Dal alliance in a bitter contest.
