'Stop Lying, Start Working': Rahul Gandhi Takes Swipe at PM in Bihar

Motihari, Bihar: As they both campaigned in Bihar, Rahul Gandhi today tore into Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what he called false promises to the people of India. "Stop lying and start working," the Congress vice president said at a rally two days before the third round of voting for state polls.

"Now the PM is realizing that the people of India are smart and they are wise to his lies. Modiji, stop lying and start working," Mr Gandhi said, addressing a rally in Motihari.

"He promised Acche Din (good times), said he would bring down prices, but today the price of dal is Rs 200/kg and Modi is silent."

Bihar is half way through polls that are expected to decide the future of three-time Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his grand alliance comprising Lalu Prasad Yadav and the Congress.

In its attempt to defeat Nitish Kumar, an ally-turned-bitter rival, the BJP is banking on a series of rallies by the prime minister.

The results of the five-phase polls will be announced on November 8.

Rahul Gandhi predicted a victory for the grand alliance.

"The BJP will not be seen after this election. The Congress knows how to rule...we ran a government for 10 years. We removed millions of poor from poverty and we will do the same in Bihar," Mr Gandhi said.

"There will be no Suit-Boot ki Sarkar. There will be no government where Dalits are equated with dogs," the Congress leader added, referring to a massive controversy over union minister VK Singh's comments on the killing of two Dalit children in Haryana. "If someone throws stones at a dog, the government is not responsible," General Singh had said, when asked whether the state's BJP government was to blame for not protecting the Dalits.
