After Nitish Kumar's 7 Resolves, PM Modi Makes 6 Promises to Bihar

Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today made half-a-dozen promises to the people of Bihar, where the third phase of the assembly elections will be held on October 28.

For starters, the PM said at a rally in Chapra, there will be a three-point programme -- Bijli, sadak, paani (electricity, roads and water).

There will be another three-point programme for the youth and the elderly, he said: "Yuvako ki padhai (education for the youth), Yuvako ki kamai (jobs for the youth) aur bujurgo ki dawai (medicines/healthcare for the elderly)".

"If the BJP comes to power, we will form a committee to plan resurgence for industry in Bihar," he also added.

The Prime Minister's six promises comes on the heels of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's "Seven Nischay" (seven resolves) announced in  August before polling dates were announced. Under this, the Chief Minister had promised unemployment allowance, a 35 per cent reservation for women in jobs and piped water and free electricity connection to every home.

But in the first of his four rallies in the state today, PM Modi used the development issue to hit out at Mr Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad again. "We have just one agenda for Bihar - development. We talk of development during our election rallies," he said. "In their election rallies - they talk just about Modi, Modi, Modi."

Mr Kumar and Mr Prasad, he said, were answerable to the people for "forcing" people to leave the state. "They made migrants of the youths of Bihar," the PM said.

The Prime Minister will address 17 rallies over the next six days in Bihar. The BJP's big drive comes ahead of the third phase of the elections in the state. The party has denied reports that it had suffered a setback in the first two phases.
