This Soldier's Son Needs Your Help

Hi Everyone.

I am an Australian soldier and I need your goodwill to help the handicapped son of a fallen Indian comrade.

I know you often get hit for fundraisers but I am afraid I am going to ask you as well. If I am asking for money its only fair that I have skin in the game so starting on 1 November I will aim to do four pushups for every km that was ridden in this year's Tour de France, that is 3660.5kms or 14642 pushups in 23 days, an average of 637 push ups a day, though the hardest day will require 950 pushups.

Why am I doing this?

Like many soldiers I have had friends killed and wounded in conflict and I am trying to help the handicapped son of a fallen comrade. Soldiers go many places and we tend form friendships based on respect. I spent time serving with the Indian Army and during that time I met a great soldier from the Ghurkha regiment. Major Mohit Whig became a dear friend but was killed by a roadside bomb planted by extremists in northern India not long after I returned to Australia. As so often is the case the tragedy did not stop with his loss and his family was left facing great challenges. Only a few short months before he was killed his son Fateh Whig was born with severe Spina Bifeda and while he has received good medical care his access to quality rehabilitative care has been very limited. As Fateh gets older he will need to have more independence and to gain this he needs training to be able to self help and in doing so to live with dignity.

His mother Tina is a wonderful woman who has lived off a war widow's pension because work was not possible with the day to day care Fateh requires. This project will help give Fateh more independence as he gets older and relieve some pressure on Tina.

This fundraising challenge will help provide for a period of residential rehabilitative care at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. The care will give Fateh self maintenance and care skills that will give him greater independence and the ability to live with greater dignity. Costs will cover, air fares from India to Melbourne, residential (2-4 weeks) and medical costs.

I am using the Just Giving Donation website to collect donations and while a total target of  25000 pounds is required I am setting my initial target at 5000 pounds as if I don't make the target I set then they do not collect any of the donations. Obviously I hope to raise this and much more. The web link to make a donation is :

Please help me in my Push Ups For Fateh, "PUFF" for short. I would like your support but Fateh needs it to help give him the chance for a better and more independent life.

I will keep you updated with progress as I go but I hope you can help.

I need as much support as I can get so if this touches you please pass this on to as many friends as you can.

Sincere thanks

Brigadier Bill Sowry
