Maintaining law and order will be a priority; says Akhilesh
He is expected to stake claim today and will be sworn in between 11 and 1 on Thursday, March 15. Akhilesh has his first task cut out. He has promised to address a continuum of acts of violence by his party workers in different parts of the state. He begged that part of the problem is that officials appointed by the previous dispensation are still in place and not performing their duties.

"Soon honest officers would be appointed and action taken against those who did not perform their duties. Law and order will be a priority," said Akhilesh Yadav, who is expected to meet the Governor soon and formally stake his claim to form the government in Lucknow.
Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) will remain in  the political scene - both in UP and at the centre. We will move forward with his blessings, says Akhilesh Yadav.

Akhilesh Yadav, 38, will be the new Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He will also be the youngest ever to hold that position. Mr Yadav's name was proposed by senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan at a legislative party meeting in Lucknow.

The suspense over who will head the new government in Uttar Pradesh will officially be over in a few hours from now. After a spectacular win in the Assembly elections, Samajwadi Party leaders are meeting in Lucknow today to formally elect a new Chief Minister.

Azam Khan has reached the party office. He was missing from the earlier meeting of MLAs held before Holi, on Wednesday.
Akhilesh's name is likely to be seconded by Ram Gopal Yadav, Mulayam Singh's brother and an important member of the SP think-tank.
Akhilesh's name will reportedly be proposed at the meeting by Azam Khan, Samajwadi Party's Muslim face . Mr Khan was among those who reportedly did not share the enthusiasm of most other party members who said it was time for the younger Yadav to take charge.

His father, Mulayam Singh Yadav has established that his own political acumen remains top-grade. In  3 days, he has wooed a faction of the party that was opposed to a rookie as chief minister into consensus.
