Catch of the Day: Don't try this at home

New Delhi: Tucked somewhere inside a cluttered cupboard, a toy car with a deep baritone says when bumped: "See how you drift." (Or some such.)

That is Doc Hudson, the famous Piston Cup champ of yore from the Disney Pixar film Cars. And Lightening Mcqueen's hero-come-lately.

Well, on a wildly-viral new video, World Rally Championship driver Ken Block seems to say, "See how I drift" and a lot else.

This is the latest video, released this month and the third in the Gymkhana series. Gymkhana? For the uninitiated, read yours truly, Gymkhana is an auto sport "that takes place in a parking lot, an abandoned airport, an international shipping port or (this) epic 86-year-old European track that requires drivers to skillfully maneuver their cars around a series of cones, slaloms, turns, figure eights and possibly a 51-degree bank using extreme acceleration, braking and drifting."

I got that from the video you are about to watch. As I write this my car-crazy colleague, is smirking at my lack of personal knowledge about drifting. "This is brilliant stuff," he says, wagging a finger at me.

Must add here that this is a trained driver doing these stunts and must not be tried for fun.

Ken Block was quoted as saying, "The stunts I perform in Gymkhana THREE, Part 2 are without a doubt the craziest stuff I have ever attempted behind the wheel." And, "Sure, I've seen people drift banks, but never ones this steep, and never head on. I treated the Autodrome's 51-degree wall like a quarter pipe and it was awesome. Awesomely sketchy! Who knew you could do a wall ride in a car?"

While the head spins for those that have not quite seen driving of that kind, here's a more sedate car statement. It's an advertisement and I am not crazy about playing commercials here, but this had some merit. In fact, it's quite...ummm...Superb.
