Hero hunting? Catch some cool people

Hero hunting? Catch some cool people
New Delhi: Call me hero hungry. I am still hung over on the Narayanan Krishnan phenomenon, our Catch yesterday. And I do hope lots and lots of Indians voted for him to be the CNN Hero of 2010. (Read: He brings hot meals to India's homeless)

So there I was crawling all over in search of today's catch and a few interesting things did jump out. Users have also sent in interesting links and I promise many shall make it to the Catch list, but the need to hero hunt was compelling. And then Catch regular Nasr ul Hadi shared a link.

Every now and then a simple idea looks you in the face and smirks. Because it knows you wish you had thought of it first. Catch Shubho Sengupta's Facebook album that he calls "Cool People We Like..."

A lot of heroes there and Shubho, if you do read this, I hope Krishnan gets added soon.

Am also presuming Sengupta, who owns and curates the album will not mind my sharing it here.  The album does carry a note that says, "Pls share if you find this interesting - 'everyone' can see this." I found this very interesting.

Here's a link to Shubho's complete album.

You'll have to be on Facebook to view that, but then who isn't on Facebook? Right?

Sengupta is looking for "fierce individualists pushing the envelope, ideally far away from the public/media eye" to feature on his album. He has 51 cool people on the album, not all of them really far away from the public/media eye, but who's quibbling?

Great album already. I spotted quite a few people there that I think are very cool, not least Salman Khan of the Khan Academy, who really is a Catch with his almost 2000 free online tutorials hosted on YouTube, with millions and millions of views.

For those who came in late, Khan -  who's had recognition, accolades, awards and grants come his way in recent times for an idea that never fails to fascinate - is an American man with Bangladeshi roots, holds three MIT degrees and a Harvard MBA, and started on his teaching journey while tutoring his cousin. So Wikipedia tells me.

We are crawling the Web for more great videos, tweets pictures, blogs and people that just must be showcased. If you spot some that make you stop and stare, send them in here. We'll be happy to credit it to your spidery efforts on the WWW.
