Chandigarh:
The body of a former village head was recovered on Tuesday in Karnal district with his kin crying foul and accusing Haryana's Transport Minister O P Jain and local MLA Zile Ram of playing a role in his "murder".
Body of Karam Singh, a former Sarpanch, was found lying in a pool of blood near the NDRI, Karnal, police sources said.
Police have registered a case against five unknown persons on the complaint of the victim's kin, Karnal DSP Sunder Boraya said.
The victim's kin Anil Kumar told reporters in Karnal that they had prepared a written complaint against the Karnal legislator and Jain and forwarded it to the Chief Minister, Karnal Deputy Commissioner and SP, Karnal.
According to Kumar, the victim had given money to some people for some work, but that was not done and when he demanded it back, he was threatened.
While the Congress legislator was not reachable, Jain trashed the allegations saying they were "baseless".
"I don't even remotely know the man who is said to have been murdered. The charges being levelled against me are baseless," he said.
"I can't even kill an ant, what to talk of killing a human being. If any of these allegations claiming my involvement in the case are found to be true, then I am ready to face any punishment and people should hang me for that," Jain said.
