Chandigarh: Police in Chandigarh today seized close to 800 boxes of liquor from a vehicle and arrested a person in connection with it, as part of its drive before the Lok Sabha polls.
Acting on a tip off, a police team stopped a truck near Tribune Chowk and recovered 792 boxes of liquor from the vehicle.
The Election Commission has asked government departments to keep a strict vigil on the illegal flow of money and alcohol in the run-up the general elections.
While the driver managed to flee, the conductor identified as Sonvir Singh was apprehended by the police.
Police claimed the liquor was being taken from the city to Uttar Pradesh.
Accused Singh could not produce any license or permit for possessing the liquor, police said, adding that a case has been registered in this regard.
