Chandigarh records season's coldest night at 4.4 deg C

Chandigarh: With no let up in the ongoing cold wave sweeping Punjab and Haryana during the past fortnight, Chandigarh today recorded the season's coldest night so far at 4.4 degrees Celsius.

Icy winds blew here last evening forcing the locals to cover themselves with heavy woollens as the minimum dropped three notches below normal.

In Haryana, Narnaul also recorded season's coldest night so far at 2 deg C, down four  notches, the MeT said here.Ambala also reeled under severe chill at a low of 3.7 deg C, down three degrees, while Karnal also shivered at a minimum of 4.8 deg C, two notches below normal.

Bhiwani, too, experienced a cold night at 4.4 deg C, down two degrees, while the respective lows at Rohtak and Hisar were 4.9 deg C and 5.1 deg C.

In Punjab, Amritsar continued to remain under the grip of intense chill, with the minimum settling at 3.5 deg C, one below normal.

Ludhiana also braved the cold weather at a low of 4.5 deg C, down two degrees, while the minimum at Patiala was 5.5 deg C, also two below normal. The MeT said that fog reduced visibility early this morning at some places including Amritsar, Ludhiana and Rohtak.

Cold wave is likely to continue in the region during the next few days, according to the MeT forecast.
