Chandigarh: The Mayor of Chandigarh was shocked to find a dead lizard in mid-day meal prepped for toddlers and pregnant women in a government-run center in the city. She has ordered a probe into the incident.
The food was to be served at the Aanganwadi centre in Mauli Jagran colony.
A spokesman of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation said that the mayor arrived at the centre after receiving a phone call regarding pathetic conditions at the center.
"All the children and pregnant women were found sitting in unhygienic conditions," the spokesman said.
Chandigarh has nearly 500 Aanganwadi centres out of which 30 are located in Mauli Jagran colony itself.
The mayor informed the Union Territory Administrator's Advisor Vijay Dev about the incident and the appalling conditions at the Aanganwadi centres and sought a probe into the incident and poor condition of these centres.
