Chandigarh:
A heat wave swept through Punjab and Haryana no Tuesday, with the maximum temperature touching above normal at many places.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a maximum temperature of 40.7 degree Celsius, two degrees above normal, the MET department here said.
Ludhiana recorded a high of 41.5 degree Celsius while the mercury in Patiala soared to 42.1 degree Celsius, two and three notches above normal respectively.
In Chandigarh, where unscheduled power cuts, particularly in the city's southern sector, have added to people's woes, the temperature touched 40.7 degree Celsius.
In Haryana, the mercury soared to 42.7 degree Celsius in Rohtak, while Bhiwani recorded a high of 42.2 degree Celsius. Ambala's maximum settled at 40.9 degree Celsius, while Hisar recorded a high of 42 degree Celsius.
The MET has forecast that the maximum temperatures in the region may further soar over the next few days.
