Mohali: A 35-year-old engineer and IAS aspirant is one of the eight people arrested by Mohali police in connection with looting robbery of Rs. 1.34 crore from a bank's cash van. The daring robbery took place on Monday when a gang of masked robbers forcibly took over the cash van from two security guards at gunpoint on Patiala highway.
"Ranpreet Singh Rana is a B Tech and worked in some private company, he later went to Chandigarh for coaching to become an IAS officer. But soon he came in contact with notorious criminals and chose this path to earn quick money," said PS Gill, Inspector General of Police, during a press conference.
The gang, police say, had carefully avoided using cell phones and also erased all traces of finger prints by setting the cash van on fire.

The robbers reportedly threw red chili powder at the cash van's driver blinding him, after which they drove it to a deserted spot.
Seven others who have been arrested have as many as 18 cases of theft and loot pending against them.
