Punjab constitutes rehabilitation cell for immigrants

Chandigarh: To facilitate rehabilitation of immigrants of Punjab origin from strife-torn Libya, the Punjab government has constituted a 'Rehabilitation Cell' here. The decision to constitute the cell headed by Director Disaster Management Bhawna Garg was taken by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here in a meeting, an official spokesman said.

An apex committee comprising Financial Commissioner (Revenue) AR Talwar, Principal Secretary (Home) DS Bains and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister DS Guru has been constituted under the chair of Chief Secretary SC Agrawal to look into the policy issues involved in the rehabilitation process.

The state government has also set up a 'help desk' at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, under the supervision of Resident Commissioner Punjab Bhawan, New Delhi, K Siva Parsad for extending all possible assistance to the immigrants from Libya to enable them to reach their homes comfortably.
