Chandigarh:
Three members of a family were killed when their car collided with a truck due to poor visibility on the Hisar-Delhi national highway even as a thick blanket of fog hit vehicular traffic in Punjab and Haryana.
Three family members were killed and a child was injured when the car in which they were travelling collided with the truck on Hisar-Delhi national highway last evening, police said here.
According to the MeT department here, there was heavy fog early today at several places including Ludhiana, Patiala, Rohtak, Ambala, Bhiwani, Hisar affecting movement of road and rail traffic.
There was no let up in biting chill with Narnaul in Haryana reeling at a low of 1.5 degree Celsius, down five degrees below normal.
Piercing chill swept Ambala, too, which registered a low of 3 deg C, down four notches, while Hisar experienced a cold night at 4.8 deg C, down one degree.
Bhiwani recorded a minimum temperature of 4.6 deg C, down two notches, while Rohtak registered a low of 6.4 deg C. The low at Gurgaon settled at 6.4 deg C. The chill also swept Chandigarh, which recorded a minimum of 5.3 deg C, down one degree.
In Punjab unabated cold continued to sweep Amritsar, which recorded a low of 2.4 deg C, down two notches. Freezing cold waves also swept Ludhiana, which registered a minimum of 2.6 deg C, two below normal, while Patiala's low settled at 4.5 deg C, also down by two notches.
Fog and chill would prevail in the region over the next two days, the MeT said.
