Barack Obama to Conclude Visit With Address at Siri Fort Auditorium
New Delhi: US President Barack Obama will conclude his three-day visit to India today. His last engagement will be an address before a select gathering at Delhi's Siri Fort Auditorium.

Here are the latest developments in this story:

  1. In his address, President Obama is expected to focus on the relationship between India and the US, and the importance of diversity as a democratic value, US officials said. The address, which will start at 10.30 am, will be followed by a question and answer session.

  2. During the programme, President Obama is also expected to meet Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi backstage. The US President, who received the Nobel peace prize in 2009, had first met Mr Satyarthi on Sunday at the banquet hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee.

  3. President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are expected to board the Air Force One from the Indira Gandhi International Airport at 1.30 pm.

  4. President Obama had to cut short his visit and cancel the trip to Agra after the death of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah. On his way back, he will be stopping at Riyadh to meet King Abdullah's successor, King Salman. Saudi Arabia, the world's largest supplier of oil, is a key ally of the US in the middle-east and a partner in the fight against terror.

  5. The US President's visit to India was marked by fresh warmth in the ties between the two countries. While he was hosted thrice at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Pranab Mukherjee, his personal rapport with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also evident.

  6. The Prime Minister had broken protocol to receive President Obama and the First Lady at the airport. The two leaders had met at least six times over the last two days. Their one-one-one discussion over tea at the Hyderabad House was a key meeting, and reportedly the one in which they achieved a breakthrough on the stalled civil nuclear deal.

  7. PM Modi and President Obama also recorded a joint radio address -- Mann ki Baat - which will be aired at 8 pm today. The Prime Minister shared a photograph capturing the moment on Instagram.

  8. On Monday, amid unprecedented security, the US President had attended the Republic Day parade at Rajpath, where he was the chief guest. Thanking PM Modi for the invitation, President Obama said the ceremony was "truly spectacular, a moving tribute to India's founding, its democracy, its progress."

  9. With business being a key agenda of his trip, President Obama also met top US and Indian business leaders. Mentioning there were "too many barriers" to conducting business in India, he said the government was "taking initiatives to ensure the ease of doing business".

  10. US and India also cleared the decks for the implementation of the vital civil nuclear deal which had been stalled for six years, worked out a new framework for defence ties and provided a boost to other key issues, including climate change and the use of renewable energy.
