Delhi cops in Hyderabad, Goa to track purchases from spot-fixing money

New Delhi: Delhi Police will seek access to items found in the Mumbai hotel room where cricketer S Sreesanth stayed, sources say. Delhi Police will reportedly file a production warrant addressed to their Mumbai counterparts in court.

Here are 10 developments in this story

  1. On Saturday, Mumbai Police had seized Sreesanth's iPad, laptop, diaries, and some cash from the room in a suburban hotel where the cricketer had checked in on May 13. Delhi Police have also sent teams to Hyderabad and Goa to track purchases Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan, and Ajit Chandila reportedly made with money paid to them by bookies. 

  2. Sources say Delhi Police will also ask the BCCI to share raw footage of all matches that featured Rajasthan Royals in IPL-6.

  3. Meanwhile, a Mumbai Police team visited the residence of Gurunath Meiyappan, the CEO of Chennai Super Kings. Sources said that they were to question him in connection with the spot-fixing scandal. However, Mr Meiyappan was not at home. He has been issued summons.

  4. Meiyappan is the son-in-law of BCCI chief N Srinivasan. This development comes a day after actor Vindoo Dara Singh, arrested on Tuesday, told interrogators that he was "frequently in touch" with Mr Meiyappan, sources said. Mr Singh was arrested for his alleged links with bookies accused of spot-fixing. (Read)

  5. Sports Minister Jitendra Singh today said, "It is very shameful. As a young person, as a sports fan, as the Sports Minister of the country, my head hangs in shame today."

  6. As the probe widens, a Delhi Police officer has claimed that Ajit Chandila was meant to fix another match played on May 17 but couldn't since he was arrested before the tie.

  7. The police claim that Chandila was paid this Rs. 15 lakh in April as advance for spot-fixing by a bookie named Deepak in Chandigarh. This amount is separate from the Rs. 20 lakh recovered from Chandila's cricket kit bag at his relative's house in Faridabad on Monday.

  8. Delhi Police say that two jeweller brothers from Jaipur, who were allegedly involved in betting, have fled the country.

  9. The voice samples of Sreesanth, Chandila and Chavan - arrested for alleged spot-fixing last week - have been collected.

  10. These samples will be matched with those in thousands of phone conversations between alleged bookies intercepted by the police during their investigations.
