New Delhi:
With barely three days before Delhi votes for its next government, manifestos of major parties are big on promises. Besides the usual
bijli-sadak-pani (power-roads-water) slogan, here are a few from the BJP's vision document that caught our eye.
Here are 10 unsual promises in the BJP's Vision Document:
Colleges in Delhi to have 85 per cent reservation for students from schools in the city or a four per cent relief in cut-off marks for Delhi students. East and West campus on Delhi University to be set up.
Number of dedicated ghaats for Chhat Puja to be increased.
Chandni Chowk, a popular market in the older part of the city, to be re-developed with plans to connect the bustling area with a tram line.
Eunuch and transgender community to be provided ample and equal opportunity of education and employment (though the document is silent on Section 377 that criminalises homosexuality).
Self-defence classes to be introduced in school curriculum with special emphasis on martial arts.
Traditional sports like Kho Kho, Kabaddi, Malkhamb and Kushti to be promoted.
A migrant commission to be set up for thousands who have moved to Delhi for work and livelihood.
Pension to be increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 for widows, disabled, homeless women and the elderly.
Protection for people from the North East under which special cells in police stations and a 24-hour helpline number will be set up. For students, special guardianship to be arranged with local families.
15-bed hospitals to be set up every 5 kilometres.
