Srinagar:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will campaign today in Srinagar, where unprecedented security is in place after serial terror attacks across Kashmir on Friday in which 13 people were killed.
Following are the latest developments:
Helicopters are hovering over the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, the venue where PM Modi will address a rally.
Police and paramilitary personnel are swarming the Srinagar city and all roads leading to the venue of the rally have been sealed.
On Sunday, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said he was monitoring the situation in Jammu and Kashmir on an "hourly basis".
Security personnel have been screening the stadium with metal detectors and sniffer dogs.
The Prime Minister is visiting Srinagar - one of the four places where terrorists struck on Friday after a record turnout in the first two of five-phase assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. On Tuesday, voting will take place in the Kashmir region.
PM Modi has chosen to address a rally from the spot which former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had used to reach out to the people of Kashmir in 2003, famously promising a resolution of the dispute "within the ambit of humanity, democracy and Kashmiriyat".
The BJP is doing everything to ensure that the rally is a success. Since the party does not have a strong base in the Valley, it has arranged to bring in people from different parts of Kashmir. Thousands of supporters of the party's potential allies will also be attending the rally.
On Friday, terrorists struck in Srinagar, Uri, Tral and Shopian. PM Modi said the terrorists tried to attack the democracy of India.
The worst attack took place in Uri, where terrorists sneaked into an army camp and killed eight soldiers and three policemen. In Srinagar, two terrorists threw grenades inside a police station.
Sources say food packets and other items recovered from the terrorists had stamps of Pakistan. Six assault rifles and more than 50 magazines were found on the attackers. They had 10 grenades each.
