PM-elect Narendra Modi was mobbed by crowds on arrival in Delhi this morning. Here are 10 developments:

  1. Hundreds of flag-waving supporters mobbed Mr Modi as he arrived in the capital on Saturday, smiling and flashing victory signs after his party's crushing win in the national election. The BJP's performance is the strongest by a political party in 30 years.

  2. Mr Modi flew to Delhi's main airport from his home state of Gujarat shortly before 11 am.  His journey to the party headquarters doubled up as a huge victory procession.

  3. A crowd, waiting since early morning but entertained by a marching band and thumping dance music, burst through police barricades at the sight of the 63-year-old leader's cavalcade.

  4. "Modi is our lion! He will work for the people of India, he will work for development, he will work for every Indian," shouted Om Dutt, a 39-year-old shop owner.

  5. Mr Modi, wearing a blue jacket and shirt, opened the door of his car while it drove along, as many strained for a glimpse, took videos on their mobile phones and showered the vehicle in petals.

  6. The BJP won the first majority in Parliament since 1984 after a campaign by Mr Modi focused on delivering new jobs, development and clean government.

  7. Analysts say the triumph has redrawn India's political map, handing him a huge mandate for change, and checking the power of regional parties who had become indispensable in an era of coalition governments.

  8. Mr Modi's victory also heaped humiliation on the ruling Gandhi political dynasty of the Congress which was landed its worst ever performance with just 44 of Parliament's 543 seats.

  9. After attending a meeting of the BJP's top leaders in Delhi to discuss potential ministers in his government, Mr Modi will fly to Varanasi, one of the two constituencies from where he successfully ran for Parliament.

  10. Mr Modi is scheduled to offer prayers this evening  on the banks of the River Ganga in India's holiest city.
