At a meeting called by Mr Ansari with the government and the opposition, members agreed that the chairperson would endorse PM Modi's statement appealing for an end to the impasse and also make a fresh appeal to "all MPs, ministers and leaders of all political parties to maintain civility at all costs in public discourse."
A united opposition had earlier insisted on a resolution that "strongly disapproves of any statement by an MP or a minister that is inflammatory and derogatory and violates the letter and spirit of the Constitution."

The minister will campaign again in Delhi today, despite outrage over her statements at a rally last week.

The opposition, however, protested that the prime minister never once expressed regret. "He didn't show respect to the house. It took him three days to come from his parliament office to the house," said Anand Sharma.
