Kapil Sibal, IITs reach a compromise: Top 5 developments

New Delhi:

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have agreed on a compromise formula on the common entrance exam after revolting against HRD Minister Kapil Sibal's earlier 'one nation one test' formula. At a meeting of IIT Council in New Delhi on Wednesday, the directors of all the 15 IITs agreed to implement the new admission format from next year.

Here are the top 5 points of compromise

  1. Class 12 Board marks will not be considered for entering the IIT. This is what the IIT Senates have been demanding.

  2. 20 per cent of the top scorers from state boards will be eligible to take the Main entrance test. From them, 50,000 top scorers will be selected for taking the next level Advance Test.

  3. These two set of tests (main and advanced) will not be held on the same day.

  4. Advance Tests will be conducted by the IITs themselves.

  5. This new format will be implemented from 2013 - something Mr Sibal has been insisting on.
