Ms Mukerjea's husband, Peter, the former CEO of Star TV, and his son from an earlier marriage, Rahul, met with the police on Wednesday evening to give their statements.
Rahul Mukerjea was dating Sheena Bora, 22, just before she was last seen alive in 2012. Peter Mukerjea told NDTV on Wednesday that he was unaware that Ms Bora was his wife's daughter and not sister.
Peter Mukerjea also said that his wife and he did not approve of his son's relationship with Ms Bora "but they were grown-ups and they were adults."
The police claims that Ms Bora was last seen alive in a car with Ms Mukerjea, her driver and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna who was arrested in Kolkata on Wednesday.
Sources in the Mumbai Police say that Ms Bora was first strangled and that her body was kept overnight in a car parked in Peter Mukerjea's garage. The next day the body was allegedly taken to a forest in Raigad on the outskirts of Mumbai where it was allegedly set on fire.
Police sources say that the body was then recovered and dispensed of, and claims that it is Ms Mukerjea's driver who has helped establish that the corpse was Ms Bora's.
The police says Ms Mukerjea's son Mikhail Bora told reporters that he believes his mother is guilty and will divulge her motive if she does not confess the truth soon.
Mikhail Bora also said that Ms Mukerjea never encouraged her children to call her their mother.
Peter Mukerjea said that his wife had told him that Ms Bora had moved to Los Angeles to study.
The police also says that nobody in the family ever filed a missing complaint for Ms Bora.
