Chennai:
A worker at the Chennai port came across an unusual sight early this morning. A whale, 20-feet-long, had washed up close to the shore. The whale was dead. With considerable help, the worker moved the whale to the Chennai port.
"We fastened it with ropes and tried dragging it but the ropes snapped the first time. We tied it once again and it took nearly one and a half hours to drag it to this short distance," he recounts.
The whale, which weights close to 20 tonnes, is lying in the port's waters now. The Fisheries Department has to decide tomorrow how it plans to dispose of the whale. A local museum could be offered the whale for research studies.
