Chennai:
The relay hunger strike by employees of the Airports Authority of India in Chennai protesting the Centre's move to privatise Chennai and five other airports entered the second day today.
Around 1,000 members of the Airports Authority Employees Unions (AAEU) took part in the protest at the airport here.
The protest, part of a nationwide stir, would be intensified further, AAEU Regional Secretary L George said.
A report from Coimbatore said nearly 130 AAI employees commenced an indefinite relay hunger strike at the city airport today.
The employees are protesting the Centre's move to privatise airports at Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Guwahati.
The agitation would be intensified if the Congress-led UPA government failed to withdraw its proposal, protesting employees said.
