Chennai: A day after twin blasts ripped through a train at the Chennai Central railway station, the jittery city received a terror scare due to a bomb threat at a mall, which was later determined to be a mere hoax by police.
On Friday morning, the Chennai police had to be called in after the Express Avenue Mall received a bomb threat.
After conducting a through security check, police determined that the threat was a hoax.
Chennai Police Commissioner JK Tripathy said, "It's a hoax, there is no need to panic".
A senior official at the Express Avenue Mall told NDTV, "We did not open the mall at all today following these threat calls. There was no evacuation, but people have gathered outside and are waiting for the mall to open after the security clearance".
The bomb threat comes a day after twin blasts ripped through two coaches of the Guwahati-Bangalore Express at the Chennai Central Station, leaving a young woman dead and 14 injured.
