Chennai : A red Santro, racing through a narrow lane, hurtles two pedestrians onto the road side. It keeps going, two men thrown onto its bonnet. A few seconds later, they are lurched into the air and fall onto the ground.
These are the chilling details caught by the security cameras at an apartment building in Chennai on Tuesday night. The driver, who works at a bank located in the building, was identified as Venkatesh and arrested.
Two of the five people he hit died the next day at a private hospital.
The victims were standing on the road and talking, when the car rammed into them.
"He was not drunk. He is an experienced driver," said senior police officer P Jawahar.
Police sources say the driver was speeding, hit a wall and then slammed on the accelerator instead of his brakes as he approached the men that he ran into.
