Olympic Silver medallist PV Sindhu and actor Shruti Hassan lent their support to #ChennaiGives campaign.
Chennai:
For the second consecutive year, Chennai showcased its spirit of benevolence on International Day of Giving when celebrities from across the country and cityfolk donated their belongings to those in need.
Among those who lent their support to the #ChennaiGives campaign were Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu, Chennai-born grandmaster Viswanathan Anand, actors Priyanka Chopra, Shruti Hassan and Abhishek Bachchan. Popular south Indian actor Arvind Swami is the brand amabassador of the initiative.
The campaign was undertaken by Round Table India and Ladies Circle India Area 2 in partnership with Uber taxi service.
As part of the initiative, people donated new or old items including books, clothes, utensils, appliances, gadgets etc. The organisers made it easier to give donations which were picked up by Uber cabs free of cost.
People took to Twitter and posted pictures of their donations with sheets of paper reading #ChennaiGives to show their support.
Last year around one lakh items were received which, organisers say, helped around 10,000 individuals. This year, the target is to help over one lakh people through a hundred charitable organisations and schools in Chennai.
Several other Tamil actors including Sarath Kumar, Vishal, Srikanth, Jeyam Ravi, and Dhansika also rooted for the cause.
