Chennai: contract worker dies at metro construction site

Chennai: A contract worker from Odisha died and another was injured after a crane toppled at a metro railway station construction site in Saidapet early this morning. The injured worker has suffered a fracture in his leg.

This is the third accident that has turned fatal out of the six accidents the project has suffered over the last two years.

The Saidapet underground station is being by constructed by Gammon India, according to Chennai Metro Rail authorities. The worker who lost his life was a sub-contract employee.

The first phase of the 45-km long elevated cum underground project will be completed by the end of the next year.

If everything goes well, by the end of this year the Chennai airport will be connected to parts of the northern pockets of the city and the heart of the city as well.
